Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Gunners legend David Seaman has been discussing his former club and Calum Chambers.
Arsenal have gotten off to a poor start this season, and as we all know, fans are pointing fingers at a number of different players.
Chambers has come under a bit of criticism so far this season, and Seaman believes that he isn’t suited to playing as a right-back.
What’s been said?
Seaman was having a conversation with his co-host about some of Arsenal’s players.
“Some of the players that Arteta has backed, and I say Arteta, it’s probably a combination with Edu as well. Players like Calum Chambers, or the fact that Xhaka has been given so much backing. There are little things you read and you just think they’ve got it wrong and they don’t have the right vibe. Someone like Calum Chambers, he’s done well, but is he at this level?” Seaman’s co-host said.
“He’s not a right-back though is he? He’s not a right-back,” Seaman said.

Shouldn’t play there
Seaman is right, Chambers isn’t a right-back.
The former Southampton man is better utilised as a centre-back, while his spell with Fulham in 2018/19 proved that he’s also handy as a central midfielder.
As a right-back though he seems to lack the positional awareness to play that role, and perhaps that’s why the Gunners signed Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day.
Tomiyasu’s arrival alongside the retention of Ainsley Maitland-Niles may spell the end of Chambers at right-back.
Hopefully the 26-year-old can find regular football in a position he’s more familiar with at Arsenal.
