David Seaman has recommended Arsenal to complete a transfer for Ruben Neves in the summer.

The Gunners legend was speaking on his Seaman Says podcast while hailing the £16 million (BBC Sport) man, who has agreed terms with Barcelona, according to Fabrizio Romano’s revelation on Saturday.

However, David Seaman still believes that if Arsenal secure the transfer of Ruben Neves, the deal is likely to be a success.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with the Portuguese international for ages, at this point.

In fact, even in March, it was claimed that the Premier League runners-up were willing to fork out a £50 million fee to sign him.

Now, Arsenal icon David Seaman has told his former club to go ahead and get a transfer over the line for Ruben Neves in the summer.

“I think he’s a bit better than backup plans, if I’m honest. Neves is a good player. I would take him as well, because he’s a quality player. There’s no doubt about that.”

Ruben Neves would be an excellent replacement for Granit Xhaka

With Ruben Neves’ contract expiring in the summer, David Seaman makes a smart suggesting by Arsenal to sign him on a free transfer.

As a No.8, Neves is adept at controlling games, which would especially help the Gunners get over the line in tight games, which was missing in their draws against the likes of Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton.

In addition, potential injuries to Oleksandr Zinchenko would not be as much of a blow, as the former Porto captain could help dictate the tempo for Arsenal and ease the pressure to do that on Thomas Partey.

Neves’ defensive acumen right in front of the defensive midfielder is satisfactory as well, while on the ball, his ability to break the lines and pick out a free man up the pitch is top-class.

For Arsenal to contend for league titles, they must add players such as Neves to their ranks, who can push their established starters for minutes and offer them varying tactical dimensions, as they can be utilised as per the game in question.
