Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder David Prutton says his old side were toothless against Leeds United last week.

Wednesday were narrowly beaten by their play-off rivals at Elland Road, with Chris Wood pouncing on a mistake to score the game’s only goal.

In truth, there were few chances for either side, with Jordan Rhodes missing the Owls’ best from the penalty spot.

Prutton, though, believes a draw would have flattered Carlos Carvalhal’s side, who face another difficult test against Norwich City on Saturday.

The Canaries are six points behind their sixth-placed opponents and are in need of a win to keep their play-off hopes alive.

“Sheffield Wednesday looked pretty toothless and didn’t create much against Leeds. It would have flattered them to get something, which Carlos Carvalhal admitted himself,” Prutton writes in his weekly predictions column for Sky Sports.

“There’s not much between these sides, and Norwich will need to win here to keep their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive. But I think it will be a draw.”

Nevertheless, Prutton is tipping Rhodes to score his second Wednesday goal since arriving at Hillsborough at the start of February.

The former Owls midfielder’s assessment of Saturday’s defeat conflicts that of ex-Leeds boss Neil Redfearn, who suggested the visitors were the better of the two sides.

“(In the) second half I thought Sheffield Wednesday dictated, and in the end it was a great result for Leeds, because Sheffield Wednesday probably deserved something out of it,” Redfearn told Radio Yorkshire this week.
