Former Leeds United and Nottingham Forest midfielder David Prutton has predicted on Skysports.com that Southampton will win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home this evening.

Premier League club Southampton will take on Championship side Wolves at St. Mary’s Stadium in the second round of the EFL Cup.

Prutton has backed the Saints to win the tie and progress to the third round of the competition.

Claude Puel, Manager of Southampton looks on during the Premier League match between Southampton and Stoke City at St Mary's Stadium on May 21, 2017 in Southampton, England.

“Southampton had to win the game twice against West Ham on Saturday, but it was a great result for them, especially after going for so long without scoring at home,” Prutton wrote on Skysports.com.

“Their run to the final last year proves they take this competition seriously, and they’ll fancy their chances again.

“Wolves suffered a first defeat of the season at the weekend and, with promotion the priority, you imagine there will be a few changes made like by most teams. Home win for me.”

Southampton will head into the tie against Wolves as favourites, although their chances of winning the game will depend on whether or not manager Mauricio Pellegrino makes changes to the team.

The Saints will head into the match against Wolves on the back of a 3-2 victory over West Ham at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Wolves lost their first competitive game of the season at the weekend, as they went down 2-1 to Cardiff City at the Molineux Stadium in the Championship.

The Wanderers will be determined to bounce back and return to winning ways, and winning against a Premier League club is only going to boost their morale.
