David Prutton has told Sky Sports that Sheffield Wednesday need to start turning draws into wins if they want to put pressure on the top six in the Championship – but believes they will do just that when they face Hull at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Hull have not won a game since October and find themselves just two places and four points above the bottom three in the Championship. It had appeared that they may be about to get back to winning ways in their most recent game as they boasted a 2-0 lead over Bristol City with little over 20 minutes to go – only for the Robins to turn the game on its head and steal the three points.

The Owls also have not won for a while, but they have not been beaten for a while either, drawing their last three games. In fact, you would have to go back to the same day in October that Hull last won for Wednesday’s most recent defeat.

Nevertheless, Carlos Carvalhal’s men sit in mid-table, six points off the play-off places. Prutton believes that they need to start winning, but he is confident that the Owls will do so at the weekend.

“Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in a while now but there have been too many draws for them lately, and they’ll need to start turning those into victories if they want to get themselves into the play-offs,” he told Sky Sports while explaining why he is expecting a 3-1 win for Wednesday.

“There are few nicer games in the division right now than Hull at home, though, with Leonid Slutsky’s side in terrible form. Their confidence must be so low after that collapse against Bristol City last week, and this is surely a banker for the Owls.”

With three of the top 10 to play before the end of the year – including a home game against Wolves in mid-December – Carvalhal will undoubtedly want to see his players show their ruthless side at the weekend to get some momentum under their belts before a tricky run of games.

But Leonid Slutsky’s side will also be aware that, with Wednesday boasting no wins in three, they may not have too many better chances to gain a positive result on their travels.
