Birmingham City host Wolverhampton Wanderers at St Andrew’s in a game that pits sides at opposite ends of the Championship against each other.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are flying in the Championship at the moment, sitting four points clear of second place. Wolves have won their last five in the league, and have scored nine in their last two fixtures – and of course, they remain one of just two teams to have denied Manchester City victory inside 90 minutes as Pep Guardiola’s men needed a penalty shootout to win their Carabao Cup tie.
Birmingham meanwhile, remain in a very precarious position in the second tier. Steve Cotterill’s side have won just one of their last seven games and find themselves one place and just two points above the bottom three – and they would be forgiven for not being optimistic about their chances of improving their recent form in their next game.
And Prutton has suggested that he cannot see anything other than a win for the Championship leaders when the two teams face each other on Monday.
“Birmingham showed some great resilience to hold Sheffield United to a draw last week, but it’s hard to see where they can match this opposition on Monday night. This has got comfortable away win written all over it.”
It would certainly be a major shock if Birmingham were able to end Wolves’ winning run, even though they have home advantage and will have been buoyed by their draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.
Wolves appear to be on their way to the Premier League, and Nuno will be urging his side to not get complacent as that seems to be the only thing that could prevent the current leaders from securing automatic-promotion.
