The former Whites star is backing a three-goal Yorkshire derby at Oakwell.

Former Leeds United star David Prutton has written in his weekly predictions for Sky Sports that he is expecting his former side to win at Yorkshire rivals Barnsley on Saturday evening.

The Whites are in superb form, on a seven-game undefeated streak since early December, a run of results which has seen them take 16 points from the last 18 available in the Championship.

That form has them in third place in the table ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, albeit having played a game more than some of their close rivals.

Much of that recent success has been built on the goalscoring exploits of Chris Wood. The New Zealander has scored 17 goals this season, including three in two games since the turn of the year.

However, Prutton chose to single out another Leeds star as a key man for this weekend’s clash, highlighting the fact that Pablo Hernandez appears settled after signing a permanent deal.

Prutton wrote for Sky Sports: “Leeds were utterly dominant against Derby and are in a very, very good vein of form, with Chris Wood scoring the amount of goals that suggest a purple patch in his career.

“So hopefully long will that continue as far as Leeds are concerned, along with Pablo Hernandez, who I think has been a great addition. He is now a permanent signing and you can tell he now feels at home and part of the furniture and so can express himself.

“It will be intense and passionate, as any Yorkshire derby tends to be, but for me it feels as though Leeds are going to go there and get all three points.”

Hernandez has impressed during his time at Elland Road so far due to his obvious technical quality, and he has chipped in with three goals and four assists despite missing almost two months of the campaign through injury.

As a reward for his fine form, the 31-year-old’s six-month loan deal was turned into a permanent contract lasting until the end of the season earlier this month.

Prutton predicted that the Whites would edge Saturday’s game by one goal with a 2-1 win.
