Aston Villa host Sheffield United on Saturday in a game that pits two of the Championship play-off chasers against each other.

David Prutton has told Sky Sports that he is expecting Aston Villa and Sheffield United to play out a four-goal thriller when they meet at Villa Park at the weekend, with the points being shared.

Given their respective positions in the table, both sides’ recent form has certainly come as a shock, with neither managing to win a game in December – with Villa drawing two of their last three while the Blades have lost four of their last five.

It had looked like the most likely reason that either of the two sides would miss out on the play-offs come the end of the season would be because they had secured automatic-promotion, however, either could fall out of the top six this weekend with the three teams leading the chasing pack all within two points of the pair.

And Prutton has suggested that he is expecting both teams to leave themselves vulnerable in the table, as he is predicting that neither will end their winless runs.

“It had been a while Villa lost a game so that defeat at Derby last week, especially considering they’re another promotion rival, was a bit of a setback for Steve Bruce’s side,” he told Sky Sports while explaining why he is expecting a 2-2 draw.

“Sheffield United, meanwhile, are now on an absolutely dreadful run of form and there’s a decent chance they could slip out of the play-off places here. I think there will be goals here but I can’t split the sides.”

It would certainly be a fantastic statement for either club if they did manage to secure the three points, as both Villa and United have earned a lot of plaudits throughout the campaign.

And perhaps Saturday’s game may allow either Villa or the Blades to strike a psychological blow that may give them an edge if the two sides end up meeting once the regular season comes to an end and the play-offs begin.
