David Prutton predicts Aston Villa vs Ipswich result

Aston Villa host Ipswich Town in the Championship on Saturday looking to put more distance between themselves and the play-off chasers.

David Prutton has told Sky Sports that he is expecting Aston Villa to make it three wins in a row at the weekend as they face Ipswich Town at Villa Park in the Championship on Saturday.

Villa are flying high in the second tier currently. Steve Bruce’s side sit fourth in the table just five points off the automatic-promotion spots and appear to be extremely high on confidence having beaten Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland in their last two games.

Ipswich are bound to provide a tough test however. Mick McCarthy’s men have not lost since October, winning one and drawing two of their last three games – including a dramatic 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

But Prutton feels that the manner of the draw – the Owls scored a stoppage-time equaliser at Portman Road – may hurt the Tractor Boys, and give Villa the edge they need to pick up another three points.

“Villa have put that disappointing result at home to Sheffield Wednesday before the international break behind them with a couple of great wins since and they’re finally starting to get up to the part of the table you’d expect them to be in,” he told Sky Sports when explaining why he is expecting Villa to win 2-1.

“Ipswich were excellent on Wednesday night against Sheffield Wednesday and you wonder how much conceding that late equaliser will play on their minds here. Home win.”

With seven wins in their last 12 games in the league, it certainly appears that Villa have put their lacklustre start behind them and now simply have to be considered among the genuine promotion contenders for this season.

But with Ipswich not far off the play-off places themselves, they will know how great a win over an in-form Villa would be for their confidence and belief heading into the busy Christmas period.
