David Prutton has told Sky Sports that he expects Aston Villa to edge out lowly Brentford when Dean Smith’s side visit Villa Park on Saturday.

Brentford make the trip to Birmingham on the back of a horrendous run of form which has seen the Bees fail to win any of their five Championship games so far, losing three of them.

With star man Jota joining Birmingham City on deadline day, the signs don’t look good for the Londoners but they come up against an inconsistent Aston Villa side this weekend.

Steve Bruce’s troops have only managed one victory in five league outings so far and go into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw at Bristol City last time out.

Nevertheless, Prutton is backing a 2-1 victory for the Villans on Saturday and believes that Brentford – level on points with bottom-of-the-table Bolton – have it all to do.

“It’s looking like it might be a tough season for Brentford, especially after losing Jota on Deadline Day,” he told Sky Sports.

“Many tipped Dean Smith’s side as dark horses but they’ll need to turn their form around quickly.

“Aston Villa’s away struggles continued against Bristol City last time out, but they should be too strong at Villa Park and this feels like a home win to me.”

Worryingly for Brentford, they have not brought anybody in to replace the Spanish attacker and it could be a long season for Smith and co this season.
