Celtic legend David Provan has suggested that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will leave Ibrox if Newcastle United come calling, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.
Provan has said that if Newcastle offer Gerrard the managerial role at St James’ Park, then the Rangers boss will take it.
The former Celtic star wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Steven Gerrard’s unofficial spokesman Danny Murphy says the Rangers boss wouldn’t leave for Newcastle.
“Of that possibility the Match of the Day pundit says: ‘I think he’s built up an affinity with the Rangers supporters. I’d never say never, but at the moment no, he wouldn’t do it.’
“I’m with Murphy, I can’t see Gerrard taking the Newcastle job. Unless he’s offered it.”

Newcastle United rumour
Among the many managers Newcastle have been linked with is Gerrard.
The Daily Mail have reported that the Liverpool legend is on the radar of Newcastle’s new owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

What would Steven Gerrard do?
Now, we do not claim to have any inside knowledge about Gerrard’s desire.
But, we do not think that the Englishman will leave Rangers during a season.
The 41-year-old has a contract at Rangers, and we think that he will respect it.
Now, managers leaving a club during a season is not uncommon.
We saw that with Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.
However, with Gerrard, in our view, it will not be the case.
Gerrard is in his first full-time senior management role.
The Englishman will surely not want to damage his reputation by leaving Rangers now.
Moreover, Rangers are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title for the second season in a row and are also playing in the Europa League.
