David Provan has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo will have been looking to leave Celtic before the recent controversy.

The Celtic legend made the comments while giving his take on Bolingoli-Mbombo recently breaking quarantine rules.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, the left-back went to Spain without telling Celtic, and upon his return to Scotland, he did not go into quarantine as per the rules and came on as a substitute against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last weekend.

Former Celtic winger Provan believes that the 25-year-old Belgian – who can also operate as a left-sided midfielder – wants to leave.

Provan has also suggested that the Glasgow giants should not sack Bolingoli-Mbombo due to his actions.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Already a bit-part player for Neil Lennon, he’ll have been eyeing his next move for some time. His agent will be doing cartwheels now the full-back has burned his boats.

“Spare me the idea Celtic should sack him. Why would Peter Lawwell empty Bolingoli when he can get decent money for the 25-year-old?”

Celtic spell

Bolingoli-Mbombo moved to Celtic from Rapid Vienna in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £3 million.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the left-back made 14 appearances in the Scottish Premiership and played four times in the Europa League for Neil Lennon’s side last season.

It will be interesting to see what Celtic do regarding the left-back, especially as the summer transfer window will run until October.
