Celtic legend David Provan has written in The Scottish Sun that John Souttar should not leave, amid claims that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers want to bring him to Ibrox.

Rangers interested in John Souttar

The Scottish Daily Mail (17 November, page 83) have reported that Rangers want to sign Souttar in the January transfer window.

The Ibrox club will reportedly have to pay £500,000 for the Heart of Midlothian central defender.

The Scotland international is out of contract at Hearts at the end of the season.

Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough and Stoke City are also reportedly interested in the 25-year-old.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

What David Provan has said

Former Celtic star Provan has said that Souttar should not join Rangers or any other club in the January transfer window.

The pundit has said that the defender should sign a new contract with Hearts.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Regulars of this column will know I’m a John Souttar fan and the big fella has timed his comeback perfectly.

“Out of contract this summer, he could sign a January pre-contract with another club or sit tight until he’s a free agent next May.

“Both scenarios would see Hearts lose money on a boy they’ve supported brilliantly through his injury hell.

“If John wants to look himself in the mirror he should sign a new deal with the Jambos, allowing them to get good money for him when he gets his inevitable big move. Blank the agent for now, John.”

Could a Rangers transfer happen?

Rangers are a massive club, and the chance to play for Gers could be very tempting for Souttar.

The Gers have a new manager in charge and are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title again this season.

If Rangers agree to meet Hearts’ demands, then, in our view, a transfer is very much possible.
