It is safe to say now that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will win the title ahead of Neil Lennon’s Celtic this season.
Rangers are still unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership this season, and while Celtic’s form has improved in recent weeks, it is hard to see the Gers suffer a late collapse.
The Gers are at the top of the league table at the moment with 79 points from 29 matches, while second-placed and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic have picked up 58 points from 27 games.
Celtic have suffered a torrid time this season, and club legend David Provan has reminded what former Rangers chairman Dave King once said about the Hoops.
Back in May 2018, then Rangers chairman King said, as quoted on Sky Sports: “We appoint a manager who can win games, with more resources, and we take one league away from Celtic. We only need one league. We don’t need two or three. We need one. Once we take one away, it’s a pack of cards.”
Rangers are now finally about to win the league title and stop Celtic from making it 10 in a row, and Provan has said that King was spot on, joking that he should send the Hoops’ board a ‘Thank you’ card.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Every dog has its day, so I won’t grudge Dave King a good gloat at Celtic’s collapse. King made some crass remarks when Rangers chairman, including a cheap shot at Derek McInnes when he rejected the Ibrox job. It was a needless dig unbecoming of a Rangers chairman.
“When he predicted Celts would fold like a pack of cards if put under pressure, it sounded like more hot air. Turns out he was spot on. He should send the Celts board a thank you card.”
Good for Scottish football?
Celtic have won the league title in Scotland for the past nine seasons, and Rangers set to win it this time around makes the Scottish top flight more interesting.
It is good and important for Scottish football that Celtic and Rangers compete for the title on a regular basis instead of just the Hoops winning it all the time.
