Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic signed Charly Musonda on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Musonda, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger and earns £520,000 per year as salary according to Spotrac.com, joined Scottish Premiership club Celtic on an 18-month loan deal from Premier League giants Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old has struggled for playing time at the Hoops since his January switch and has made just four appearances in the Scottish Premiership, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
Celtic legend Provan has predicted that the Belgium Under-21 international will leave the Hoops in the summer transfer window.
Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Back in January, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers described the loan signing of Charly Musonda as ‘a big signing for us’.
“Rodgers also revealed Celtic had beaten two dozen other clubs for the player’s signature. Either way, the Chelsea player already looks like a big mistake.
“Musonda left Chelsea because he wasn’t getting first-team football but has made just three starts for the Hoops.
“Brendan reckons we’ll see the best of the 21-year-old next season. I’ll be surprised if he’s still in Glasgow by then.”
Future uncertain?
Given that Musonda was signed on an 18-month loan deal, one suspects that the youngster knew that he would be gradually integrated into the Celtic team.
The Hoops are doing well without the Chelsea-owned star, and it makes sense for manager Brendan Rodgers not to unsettle a winning team.
Musonda will be a key player for the Hoops in the Champions League qualifiers and in the Scottish Premiership next season.
