Graeme Murty is in charge of Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers following the departure of Pedro Caixinha from the Gers.
Murty is in charge of Rangers on a temporary basis, having been placed in the role following the departure of Pedro Caixinha.
Rangers have had their recent approach for Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes turned down, and the Gers will now have to look elsewhere for a new manager.
Former Celtic winger Provan does not believe that Murty is the right manager for Rangers in the long run, although he has suggested that he is good enough until the rest of the season.
Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “In their current position why would Gers rule out the likes of Alex McLeish or Billy Davies?
“Also out of the running are former players Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Frank de Boer after King insisted the next boss wouldn’t be a foreigner.
“He must be praying Graeme Murty comes good. I’m not convinced Murty has the presence for the job but you can’t argue with his results. Those two wins over Aberdeen did nothing to damage his credentials.
“With McInnes out of the frame, Rangers could do worse than give Murty until the end of the season.”
Results under Murty have been positive, with Rangers recently making it three wins in a row in the Championship.
The 43-year-old has made some bold moves, such as dropping blockbuster summer signing and star defender Bruno Alves from the team on occasions.
Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership at the moment and look to be doing well under Murty.
Murty joined Rangers in August 2016 in the role of the Head Development Squad Coach.
