Former Celtic winger David Provan has mocked speculation that Rangers could sign Ianis Hagi on a permanent contract this summer, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.

Hagi, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, joined Rangers on loan from Genk in the January transfer window.

According to The Daily Mall, Rangers plan to make the loan deal of the Romania international permanent in the summer transfer window by triggering an option for £4.3 million.

The Gers’ sporting director Ross Wilson recently told The Daily Record that the Ibrox club want to keep hold of the Romania international.

Former Celtic winger Provan has suggested that Rangers will not be able to afford to make Hagi’s loan deal permanent.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Had to laugh at fantasy speculation Rangers are ready to pay £4.3million to make Ianis Hagi’s loan from Genk permanent.

“After the 21-year-old’s legendary dad Gheorghe hinted his son wanted to stay at Ibrox, Rangers director of football Ross Wilson fuelled the story, saying:’ We’ve got an exclusive option on him.’

“If Gers or any other Scottish club has a spare £4m, they’ll be using it to keep the lights on.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Hagi has scored one goal in seven Scottish Premiership appearances, and has scored two goals and provided one assist in three Europa League games for Rangers so far this season.

The Scottish Premiership is suspended at the moment due to the global health crisis, and it remains to be seen when the campaign gets back underway.
