David Provan has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Celtic need to sign a number 10 and at least one central defender.

The former Celtic winger has suggested that manager Brendan Rodgers should be allowed to make the aforementioned signings with the Champions League money coming in.

“With £30m banked from this season’s Champions League, Rodgers should be allowed to add some proper quality to the squad including a No 10 and at least one centre-back,” Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun. “Right now, the money coming in doesn’t square with the lack of quality in the team.”

Central defence is an area that has troubled Celtic in recent weeks due to injuries and indifferent performances at times.

It would be wise of Celtic manager Rodgers to sign a centre-back in the January transfer window or next summer.

However, the problem is that the Glasgow giants may not get a ‘great’ central defender and would have to settle for a young or young-ish player for that position.

Meanwhile, David Hay has praised 21-year-old midfielder Olivier Ntcham for his performance for Celtic against Anderlecht in the Champions League in midweek.

The Hoops lost 1-0 to the Belgian club at Celtic Park in their final Champions League game, but the Glasgow giants have still managed to book their place in the round-of-32 of the Europa League this season.

Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay was impressed with the display produced by Ntcham.

“Scott Sinclair and Stuart Armstrong were taken off after they both looked out of sorts, and he threw on Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham, for me the latter changed the momentum of the game,” Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times. “His energy in the middle of the park brought Celtic to life and gave them the impetus which had been lacking.”
