Celtic legend David Provan has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard should leave the Ibrox club.

The former Celtic and Scotland international winger believes that the Rangers managerial job is going to damage the reputation of Gerrard.

Provan has suggested that the Liverpool legend, who was appointed the Rangers manager in the summer, should leave the Gers when he is ahead.

“I trust Steven Gerrard has the savvy to recognise he’s already on a fool’s errand at Ibrox,” Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun.

“The Rangers job is only going to damage his reputation. The trick for him now is to get out while he’s ahead.

“With the sacking season under way in England, a return south may offer an escape. Like Derby’s punt on Frank Lampard, there will be owners willing to embrace the celebrity of Stevie G.”

Strange advice

Rangers are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the Ibrox faithful have really taken to Gerrard.

The Gers do play good and attacking football under the former England international midfielder.

While it is going to be hard for Rangers to win the Scottish Premiership title this season and challenge bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic this season, Gerrard is doing a good job.

Leaving now would suggest that Gerrard is unable to handle the pressure of managing Rangers and the challenge of building a team.

Rangers will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Motherwell at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
