Do Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic need to change their style in order to be successful in Europe?

Manager of Celtic Brendan Rodgers looks on during the Betfred Cup Semi-Final at Hampden Park on October 21, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

David Provan has explained in The Scottish Sun what Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers needs to do in order to progress in Europe.

Celtic are playing in the Champions League group stage for the second successive season, but the Glasgow giants do not have any chance of progressing to the knockout rounds of Europe’s premier club competition this term.

The Hoops, though, can finish third in their group and drop to the Europa League.

Former Celtic winger Provan, who is a legend at Celtic Park, has suggested that Rodgers need to have a Plan B in order to guide the Hoops to success in Europe.

Celtic's head coach Brendan Rodgers talks during a press conference in Brussels on September 26, 2017 on the eve of the Champions League group B) football match against RSC Anderlecht.

“Right now, criticising the Hoops boss is like accusing Mother Teresa of shoplifting,” Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun.

“But when it comes to Celtic having a Plan B against Europe’s elite, I’ll stand my ground on that one.

“At the highest level in Europe, Celts need to learn how to win ugly. They don’t have the players to slug it out with the continent’s best sides.”

Brendan Rodgers manager of Liverpool looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park on October 4, 2015 in Liverpool, England.

Celtic are playing some wonderful and attractive football which is easy on the eye and is very entertaining.

However, to be successful in the Europa League, the Glasgow giants need to be adaptable and must know when to change their style.

While it is commendable that Rodgers wants to play only his way, perhaps he should look at doing something different when things do not go his way in Europe.
