David Provan has strongly criticised Rangers striker Kemar Roofe in The Scottish Sun.
The Celtic legend believes that Rangers striker Roofe’s challenge on Murray Davidson in midweek was really bad.
The former Leeds United striker was shown a yellow card for his challenge on St Johnstone’s Davidson on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old – described by Rangers manager Steven Gerrard as “an intelligent attacker with an eye for goal” on the club’s official website in August 2020 – caught Davidson high up the leg.
However, the striker is now facing a two-match ban for his actions, according to SkySports.com.
“Roofe has been issued with a notice of complaint by an SFA compliance officer after a panel of three former referees deemed the tackle constituted ‘serious foul play’ and breached Scottish FA disciplinary rule 200,” states the report on SkySports.com. “There will be a hearing on Tuesday if Rangers contest the notice of complaint.”

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Can’t say I agree with those queuing up to defend Kemar Roofe for his lunge at Murray Davidson. It was as bad an over-the-ball challenge as I’ve seen in a while.
“It didn’t surprise me when he landed the notice of complaint from the SFA on Friday. Davidson is lucky he wasn’t badly hurt. I’m sure Roofe will hope he’s never on the wrong end of that kind of tackle himself.”
