Glasgow Rangers chairman Dave King’s recent comments about Celtic have not impressed David Provan, who also has a warning for new Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard.

Steven Gerrard shakes hands with Dave King as he is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic legend David Provan has criticised Rangers chairman Dave King in The Scottish Sun for his recent comments.

Earlier this month, Rangers chairman King was quoted as saying by The Daily Record that if the Ibrox club win one Scottish Premiership title, then Celtic would fall like a pack of cards.

The Hoops have won the Scottish Premiership title for the past seven season, while Rangers could not even end up second in the league table this campaign.

Former Celtic and Scotland international winger Provan has criticised Rangers chairman King for his comments.

The 62-year-old has also warned new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard that things will go wrong at Ibrox.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “So Dave King reckons Celtic could collapse like a pack of cards?

“It made a decent soundbite but it wasn’t what Rangers supporters needed to hear. They were hoping King would name the heavyweight investor rumoured to be buying into Gers.

“Instead, only bluster and confirmation of another share issue which might raise £6million for Steven Gerrard’s war chest. Unless I’m missing something, this is a car crash move for Stevie G.”

Hard to compete

Celtic have the best team in the Scottish Premiership, and it is going to be hard for Rangers to compete with the Hoops for the league title next season.

However, with Gerrard in charge of the Gers, the Ibrox club will be determined to close the gap on the Hoops and at least give them a run for their money.
