Scott Brown did not play well for Celtic against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week.
David Provan has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Celtic need to find a successor to Scott Brown.
The former Celtic winger was not impressed with the performance of Brown against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League last week.
The Scotland international midfielder featured in the game for the Hoops, but the 32-year-old failed to make any impact on the outcome.
Former Celtic and Scotland international winger Provan was following the match, and the 61-year-old believes that manager Brendan Rodgers’s side need to find a long-term replacement for Brown, who has been at Celtic Park since 2007 and is very popular among the fans.
“If Brendan Rodgers is in Glasgow for the long haul, he should be identifying Brown’s replacement right now,” Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun. “The Hoops skipper never has and never will cut it at the top level.
“Sure, he’ll look the part in the SPFL where teams sit off Celtic in their own half. That allows him time on the ball to turn and pick a pass without being pressured.
“Not in Munich, where his limitations were exposed. When Sebastian Rudy and Thiago pushed up on to him, he struggled badly.”
Brown has played his entire club football career in Scotland and has been quite successful.
While it is true that the former Hibernian star is not one of the best in Europe, it must be acknowledged that the 32-year-old gets the job done in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic, who reached the final of the Scottish League Cup at the weekend, can still finish third in their Champions League group.
