David Provan has strongly criticised Celtic midfielder Scott Brown in The Scottish Sun.

The Celtic legend has slammed Brown for a clash with Kilmarnock’s Aaron Tshibola on February 2.

The Scottish midfielder – who joined Celtic from Hibernian in the summer of 2007 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4.4 million – appeared to catch Tshibola on the chin with an elbow, but match official Kevin Clancy did not see it.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, the panel that subsequently looked at the incident did not find the 35-year-old guilty of violent conduct.

It must have been a relief to Brown, who had only just returned from suspension due to violent conduct for a similar incident involving Livingston’s Jaze Kabia, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Eight years after his needless flick at Neymar cost him a Champions League red card, Scott Brown still hasn’t learned.

“Sent off at Livingston a fortnight ago for clocking Jaze Kabia, Brown was fortunate referee Kevin Clancy missed him catching Aaron Tshibola at Kilmarnock. If it wasn’t violent conduct, it was worth a red for stupidity.”

Celtic Stats

Celtic are unlikely to win the Scottish Premiership title this season, but there are signs that they are recovering.

Following a 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock away from home in the league, Neil Lennon’s side got the better of Motherwell 2-1 at Celtic Park on Saturday.

The Hoops are now second in the league table with 55 points from 26 games, as many as 20 points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers, who have played 27 games.

Brown has made 14 starts and five substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.
