Celtic legend David Provan has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are just one league away from being in a crisis.

Provan was not impressed with Rangers’ performance against Celtic at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby last weekend.

The former Celtic and Scotland international winger believes that the display produced by the Gers in the Scottish Premiership game was “pathetic”, and has suggested that if Rangers lose another league fixture, then they will be in crisis.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Fair play to Neil Lennon, who outfoxed Steven Gerrard. But Rangers’ pathetic performance was among the worst in the recent history of this fixture.

“Gerrard had two centre-backs who couldn’t make a forward pass, a clueless midfield and a striker playing in a different postcode to his team-mates.

“Carrying the weight of expectation for the first time, Gers crumbled. Early days, but the defeat leaves Gerrard one league loss from a crisis.”

Too harsh?

True, Rangers were disappointing against Celtic at Ibrox last weekend, especially in the first half, but there are enough encouraging signs to suggest that the Gers are going to push the Hoops all the way in the Scottish Premiership title race this season.

With the signing of Ryan Kent from Liverpool on transfer deadline day, the Gers are now a better team and more potent in attack, and the fans should be optimistic about the team bouncing back.

Rangers may now be three points behind the Bhoys, but only four rounds of matches have been played, and there is a long way to go this season.
