David Provan has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Rangers have not had a successful season under manager Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard.

The former Celtic winger has also claimed that Rangers manager Gerrard will be frustrated by his team’s lack of consistency this season.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Before New Year, I said Rangers would do well to finish within ten points of Celtic. They made it by a whisker.

“But having been turfed out of both cups by Aberdeen, it has hardly been a successful campaign for Steven Gerrard’s team.

“Following a derby win over Celtic, last week’s defeat at Kilmarnock summed Gers up — hopelessly inconsistent. Solving that problem will be keeping Gerrard awake at night.”

Encouraging season

Rangers did not win any major trophy this season, as Celtic clinched the domestic treble for the third year in a row.

The way Rangers fell behind after the mid-season winter break will be a worry, as until then, it did look like the Gers will give the Hoops a run for their money.

However, the way the Gers finished the season will be encouraging, and a second-placed finish is indeed progress for the Glasgow giants.

Rangers also played in the Europa League, and some of the football that the Gers played was very good and entertaining.

If Rangers sign two or three good players in the summer transfer window, then the Ibrox club will be in a very good position to challenge bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season.
