Celtic legend David Provan has claimed in The Scottish Sun that Rangers think that Ibrox duo Jordan Jones and George Edmundson are expendable.
The former Celtic star made the comments in the wake of Nathan Patterson playing for Rangers in their Europa League game against Royal Antwerp on Thursday evening.
The Scotland Under-21 international was one of five players who recently breached Covid rules.
Earlier in the season, Jones and Edmundson were handed seven-game bans by the Scottish FA Cup for Covid-19 related breaches.
While 26-year-old winger Jones was sent on loan to Sunderland in the January transfer window, 23-year-old central defender Edmundson moved to Derby County on loan.
Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Jordan Jones and George Edmundson must be scratching their heads at the reaction to Rangers’ recent Covid breach.
“While Gers earlier suspended that pair for two weeks before shipping them out on loan, there was no Ibrox ban for Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey and Bongani Zungu when they were caught partying.
“There’s a reason for that. Jones and Edmundson are expendable, while Patterson is a player with proper transfer value. There’s no place for principles in this game.”

No future for Jordan Jones and George Edmundson at Rangers?
Neither Jones nor Edmundson was particularly great at Rangers, as the winger and the centre-back could not establish themselves in the starting lineup.
Rangers are doing well without the 26-year-old Northern Ireland international winger and the 23-year-old English centre-back at the moment, and it is hard to see them play for the first team on a regular basis again if they are at Ibrox next season.
