Tottenham Hotspur signed Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur have one of the best defences in entire Europe and arguably the best in the Premier League.
Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are two of the best central defenders in the world and form arguably the best centre-back pairing in the Premier League.
However, two of Tottenham’s five signings in the summer transfer window were central defenders.

Davinson Sanchez joined Spurs from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer for a transfer fee reported by The Mirror to be worth £38 million.
Sanchez is 21 years of age and operates as a central defender. The Colombia international enjoyed a great season on a personal level at Ajax in 2016-17.
Juan Foyth also moved to Tottenham in the summer transfer window. According to The Daily Mail, Spurs had to pay Estudiantes a transfer fee of £8m in order to secure the services of the 19-year-old centre-back.

Former Tottenham manager David Pleat has given his take on the North London club signing two young centre-backs in the summer transfer window despite still having Vertonghen and Alderweireld on their books.
Pleat said on the Transfer Deadline Day show on BBC Radio5live on Thursday evening (broadcast from 7pm, August 31, 2017): “They have cover, and it’s important to have cover, and it’s also important to look to the future because we don’t know next year if all those defenders who have done so well, particularly the two centre-backs, are going to be happy to stay there or whatever or be seduced by another club or whatever it is.”
