Speaking on the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast, David Ornstein has shared what he’s heard from someone close to the deal that would have taken Jesse Lingard to Newcastle.

The Magpies are reportedly very keen on signing Lingard this month, but now, it seems as though the deal is set to collapse due to Manchester United’s unreasonable loan fee demands.

Ornstein highlighted just how quickly things can change in the transfer window by sharing a text he’d received from someone close to the situation.

What’s been said?

Ornstein gave some insight into this situation.

“His (Lingard’s) proposed move to the Magpies is apparently on the verge of collapse, United are asking for a sizeable loan fee, that Newcastle deem unacceptable. Lingard has Rangnick’s blessing, but the deal currently looks off,” The host said.

“Who knows in this window if this will change yet again? Although there are only days left in this window, there are a lot of hours within those days. Things can change incredibly quickly. Just before we came on air I had a text from someone who is deeply involved in this saying ‘it’s gone nuts’,” Ornstein said.

Hectic

This just goes to show how hectic the final weeks of the transfer window can be.

Lingard to Newcastle seems like quite a straightforward deal on paper. It’s a player who’s barely getting a game at a top club moving to a relegation contender on loan, but even these negotiations were described as ‘nuts’.

The transfer window may seems straightforward from the outside looking in, but there is so much going on behind the scenes of any potential deal.
