The Super League looks to be over before it even started.

Sunday’s controversial announcement that 12 clubs around Europe were planning to break away and form a new, closed-off league.

Six of those teams were from the Premier League; Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Fans up and down the country have been furious, slating their clubs for attempting to create something that goes so strongly against the idea of fair competition.

Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez claimed last night that nobody can leave, but Chelsea and Manchester City are both withdrawing from the competition.

Now, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has tweeted that Arsenal are also in the process of pulling out tonight.

The Gunners are now expected to make an official statement imminently, confirming that they won’t be part of the ESL.

Whether or not their fans decide to forgive and forget remains to be seen, but Arsenal are the latest domino to fall in this disastrous affair.

UPDATE: Arsenal have now confirmed that they are withdrawing from the competition, admitting that they made a mistake and are apologising for it.

That they even tried such a controversial move is galling enough, so this apology may still not be enough for some as the Premier League landscape looks to be changed forever.
