Dayot Upamecano has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months – and lord knows that they need him.
Jurgen Klopp is without all three of his senior centre-backs right now – Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip – and it’s imperative that the Reds bolster that position in January.
The Sunday World claimed in October that RB Leipzig are expecting a winter bid from Liverpool for the France international.
But it looks like there’s potentially bad news on the horizon.
According to The Athletic, Bayern Munich are winning the race to sign the 22-year-old powerhouse.
The report from David Ornstein adds that Upamecano – available for £38 million in June – is hoping to reach an agreement with his preferred club in January ahead of joining in the summer transfer window.
But is his preferred club Liverpool?
Not according to Ornstein, who added that the big defender would favour a switch to the reigning European champions.
After Van Dijk was ruled out for the season a couple of months ago, Liverpool fans on Twitter urged their club’s hierarchy to step up their pursuit of Upamecano.
But going by this report, it doesn’t look like the player will be joining Jurgen Klopp’s side.
