West Ham United are looking to snap up Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson ahead of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes wants to bring Brennan Johnson to West Ham United as he eyes up a versatile attacker in the final weeks of the transfer window.

That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Moyes is looking at potential signings if Lucas Paqueta leaves the club.

Johnson is wanted but more as a versatile attacking threat rather than as a direct replacement for Paqueta.

The Brazilian is wanted by Manchester City and West Ham need to have creative midfield targets in mind.

Johnson would be more of a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca albeit with a completely different style.

West Ham have allowed target man Scamacca to leave for Atalanta and have yet to replace the Italian.

Johnson could be the man but the additional funds from Paqueta will be needed with Forest seeking around £45million for the Welsh international.

This is another case of Moyes wanting to sign players with experience in English football, rather than the European additions Tim Steidten seemingly wants.

West Ham United face Tottenham Hotspur battle for Brennan Johnson

West Ham face two fights when it comes to Johnson’s signature, the first of which being with Forest.

Steve Cooper’s men obviously don’t want to lose Johnson and have already rejected a £35million offer from Brentford this summer.

The second comes with Tottenham Hotspur, who are keen to lure Johnson to London themselves this summer.

The Telegraph claimed last week that Tottenham could offer Bryan Gil, Joe Rodon or Djed Spence in part-exchange for Johnson.

Rodon has since joined Leeds United but Tottenham’s interest in Johnson remains following Harry Kane’s exit.

Johnson can play across the front line, which seems to be something Ange Postecoglou wants as he takes his Tottenham attack in a new direction.

The 22-year-old – hailed as ‘very rapid’ by Wales boss Rob Page – has big potential and it looks like both West Ham and Tottenham see him as having a crucial role in their attacks.
