West Ham United are set to target tried and tested Premier League players this month.

According to the Daily Express, David Moyes wants West Ham United to target British players over foreign imports this month.

Moyes is said to be encouraging West Ham to go for Joe Allen and Jonjo Shelvey over William Carvalho and Joao Mario, but that could be a mistake.

Allen and Shelvey are solid Premier League players, but they are hardly signings that would strike fear into the rest of the division.

The British pair both fit in well at mid-table teams, but any side aiming higher, may need better.

West Ham have expressed a desire to break into the top six in the future, and if Moyes really wants to prove that then the additions of Carvalho and Joao Mario may be more appealing.

Of course, neither of the Portuguese have played in England before, but they both have shown great quality on the continent.

Joao Mario and Carvalho have both impressed at Champions League level before, and although they are riskier signings than either of Shlevey or Allen, the reward looks to be far greater for Moyes’ side.
