Kevin Hatchard says he would be ’surprised’ if David Moyes’ West Ham United managed to secure the talents of Bayern Munich midfielder, Leon Goretzka.

The Bundesliga commentator stated that Thomas Tuchel has spoken about how he is open to selling the German international after a ‘disappointing’ campaign last time out in Bayern Munich colours.

But whilst Leon Goretzka might head for the exit door this summer, he doesn’t think it will be to West Ham because he expects ‘clubs in the Champions League will come in for him’, as he told talkSPORT.

At the age of 28 and a box-to-box talent, not only would Goretzka be a top, top purchase for the Hammers. But it could even be argued that he is better than Rice himself.

Of course, a lot still has to happen for the player to join Moyes’ side, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool also expressing interest in the player.

If Liverpool decided to push for his signature, then it’s obvious where he will end up, with Hatchard sharing his thoughts on Goretzka’s situation in Munich.

“I can understand why the links have come up (with West Ham),” said Hatchard. “Bayern aren’t hot on him as they once were. That’s clear.

“Thomas Tuchel has gone in there. He has a lot of power compared to Bayern coaches before him. He was quite open to the fact that Goretzka would have to fight for his place and wasn’t necessarily going to be a first-team regular. He had a disappointing season last season, as many Bayern players did. Tuchel has said that he wouldn’t rule out him moving on.

“I think he is a terrific player, still. He still has a lot to give. Box-to-box player. I think, physically, he could cope with the Premier League. He has really bulked up since he was a kid at Schalke.

“I would be surprised (if he moved to West Ham), only because I think clubs in the Champions League would maybe come in for him, so we will see what happens. But this is going to keep happening with West Ham because everyone knows they have over £100 million burning in their pocket.”

West Ham should push for Goretzka

Even if he says no straight off the bat. What does it matter? Move on and try to sign another highly ambitious player.

West Ham might find that a few turn them down, but eventually, they knock on someone’s door and they open it.

Yes, Goretzka went backwards last season, but he is still capable of playing at a very high level, that’s why, if he ends up at the London Stadium, then it will prove to be one of the signings of the summer.
