David Moyes has told Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – that he is “expecting” a “competitive game” against Tottenham on Sunday as West Ham face a race against time to prepare for such a crucial clash.
West Ham progressed into the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night with a stunning win over Sevilla. A brilliant victory, that saw the Hammers go into extra-time – Andriy Yarmolenko scoring the winner.
But West Ham now have less than three days to prepare for Sunday afternoon’s clash at Tottenham – which is a 4:30PM kick-off. Not only because they played on Thursday, but because it lasted 120 minutes.
Moyes spoke about the quick turnaround ahead of Sunday’s clash, which could be crucial in the top-four race. He also gave his verdict on Tottenham, who are proving effective, yet inconsistent under Antonio Conte.
“You are always expecting a competitive game, we will dust ourselves down and get ready, we are recovering form last night,” Moyes said. “We go into Tottenham like any other game but we know the importance of it.”
Moyes on Tottenham: Can West Ham get a result against Spurs?
Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium back in October. But that was under Nuno Espirito Santo, who failed to give Spurs an identity and ultimately proved to be a reason in his sacking.
Another difference is that the Spurs players have had two extra days of rest compared to the Hammers – after beating Brighton on Tuesday, which only lasted 90 minutes. West Ham will be a tough test for Conte and Spurs.
But, we might find that if it is a close game, Spurs could dominate towards the end of the match. A fitter Tottenham compared to Nuno’s time in charge, will surely be favourites to beat the Hammers on Sunday.
