Sunderland are due to face Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League action this weekend.
David Moyes has told Sunderland’s official site that Jason Denayer and Didier Ndong are both pushing for starts at the Stadium of Light.
Denayer and Ndong were bought to Sunderland this summer, from Manchester City and Lorient respectively, but their chances with the Wearsiders have been limited so far.
The pair both came off the substitutes’ bench during Sunderland’s 3-0 defeat against Everton last Monday.
And it seems that they could have done enough to be including in Moyes’ starting line-up for his side’s match against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
“Yeah, they are [pushing for starts]. They are both in and around it,” Moyes said, when asked whether Denayer and Ndong were getting close to the starting line-up.
“They will both play a lot of games this year for us, but we need to give them a chance to be bedded in.
“Both came on the other night and got some minutes. It will help them.”
Denayer and Ndong are both still getting to grips with playing in the Premier League, as they are both inexperienced.
Denayer has enjoyed loan spells with Celtic and Galatasaray, but he has very little competitive experience in English football. Ndong, similarly, has never played in the Premier League, but there is pressure on them both to hit the ground running.
Sunderland are yet to pick up a victory this season, and they are desperate to collect three points as soon as possible, to get their campaign up and running.
