Jarrod Bowen could make his richly-deserved England debut in March, with David Moyes and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate in talks over the West Ham United winger’s form.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report Southgate has kept close tabs on Bowen this season. The England head coach is carefully monitoring the forward’s performances at the London Stadium, as he weighs up handing the 25-year-old his international breakthrough.

Leominster-born Bowen is yet to represent his country at any age level, but has excelled in claret-and-blue this term. Moyes has unlocked nine goals and eight assists from the Irons dynamo in all competitions. He has hit six goals and seven assists in the Premier League.

Bowen’s work on the ball to create top-flight chances outshines all other options Southgate has in his position. The Athletic note West Ham have hit 17 shots after Bowen’s carried the ball. Raheem Sterling (14) heads Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka (12) with the next most.

Also, Bowen has a better average for carries leading to an assist (4) to Saka (3) and Grealish (2). But trails Grealish (16), Saka (13), Sterling (13) and Jadon Sancho (12) for carries leading to a chance (9). Bowen has created a total 25 chances, behind Grealish (33) and Saka (32).

Bowen earning England debut with West Ham form?

Bowen may earn an England debut under Southgate in March with his form in Moyes’ West Ham side, too. The Three Lions boss is mulling over a maiden call-up for when Switzerland travel to Wembley on March 26. England will also now face the Ivory Coast on March 29.

West Ham product Joe Cole, who represented England 56 times, has called for Southgate to hand Bowen his debut. The winger’s stunned Cole with his efforts and feels he is ready.

“He’s got great technical ability,” Cole told talkSPORT. “He’s different class and when you see the way he’s improving, anything can happen. He well deserves an England call-up.”
