The West Ham United ace played his first game since January at the weekend.
West Ham boss David Moyes addressed the media after his side’s superb 3-0 win over Southampton at the London Stadium on Saturday, and offered high words of praise for Arthur Masuaku, after the 24-year-old returned to action following a six-game ban, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Masuaku was an absolute revelation for the Hammers during the first half of their campaign, after being utilised in a more advanced position by Moyes.
The former Olympiacos man tainted what was a superb season individually by spitting at an opponent during his side’s FA Cup fourth round defeat to Wigan, and subsequently earning a six-game ban.
His absence from the team coincided with a dramatic drop in form for West Ham, with Moyes’ men picking up just one victory during that period.
The Scot spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 3-0 win on Saturday, and offered an interesting insight on how Masuaku’s time spent away from action has actually benefitted him as a player, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“We have missed the natural balance he brings, whether you see him as a left-back, a left wing-back or a left winger, he’s a little bit of all of them at different times in the game for us. In a way, I think he has benefited from his time off, because we’ve used that time to practice his finishing, his crossing and he’s positionally a little bit better.”
Next up for the Hammers is a tricky looking trip to Chelsea on Sunday, and Masukau will have to be at his very best, if his side are to have any chance whatsoever of leaving Stamford Bridge with anything to show for their efforts.
