David Moyes has told the Chronicle that he has remained positive with his Sunderland players, despite their latest defeat.

Sunderland were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in their latest Premier League match, leaving them stuck at the foot of the table.

The Black Cats started well in their match against City, but they failed to pick up a victory.

Sergio Aguero netted City’s first, before Leroy Sane sealed the three points with a second goal.

Although Sunderland went into the match as underdogs, time is now running out for the Wearsiders to claim enough points to get out of trouble.

And Moyes said: “This was always going to be one of the tough fixtures but I thought the players gave it a go.

“I’ve told them that and told them they should remain positive and they are.”

Sunderland have experience of getting out of trouble against the odds, but they do appear to be in serious danger of being relegated now.

The Black Cats are now six points adrift of safety, with just 11 league games remaining this term.

Sunderland are next in action at the weekend, against Burnley, and they will be under huge pressure to get the three points.
