Sunderland picked up their first Premier League victory of the season against Bournemouth last weekend.
David Moyes has told Sunderland’s official website that he has come to expect only the very best from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Pickford has been one of very few bright sparks in Sunderland’s season so far, with his performances catching the eye.
The 22-year-old stopper has become the Black Cats’ first choice goalkeeper, after a string of outstanding displays.
Pickford was once again brilliant for Sunderland, as they collected their first win of the season against Bournemouth.
The England youth international made a number of fine saves, with one stop from Joshua King being particularly memorable.
And Moyes has revealed that he spoke to Pickford after the game, to tell him that those are the sort of displays that he now expects the youngster to put in.
“Jordan made two or three brilliant saves and I said to him in the dressing room that I come to expect that now so that gives you an idea of what I think of him because I expect him to make those saves, he is a really good goalkeeper,” Moyes said.
Sunderland’s win over Bournemouth has provided some much needed reason for cheer, after what was a terrible start to the campaign.
Sunderland failed to win any of their first 10 Premier League matches, but edged past Bournemouth thanks to goals from Victor Anichebe and Jermain Defoe.
Sunderland are now six points adrift of safety, with their next match coming against fellow relegation strugglers Hull City after the international break.
