Th West Ham United midfielder has shown vast improvements in recent weeks.
West Ham boss David Moyes spoke to reporters about Joao Mario’s fine performances of late, and shared what he told a friend about how the Portuguese has settled into life at the London Stadium, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Hammers signed the 25-year-old on loan from Inter Milan in January, and he finally seems to be finding his feet in east London.
He has recorded a goal and an assist in six Premier League outings so far for West Ham, and he is beginning to show the kind of quality that earned him such a big reputation at Inter.
Moyes, who was handed the reigns at the Hammers in November 2017, told reporters how he believes that Mario has done well since joining the club in January, highlighting how hard it is for players to hit the ground running when they move clubs mid-season, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“I think Joao Mario has done well since he came in. I said to a friend the other day ‘tell me who’s made an impact as a signing in January for any Premier League club?’. It’s not that easy to think of players who have made an impact from January. To come to the Premier League and play is not easy. I think Joao Mario had probably his best game for us on Saturday: he got us a really good goal, he got us the assist for the second one, so that pleased me overall. I think You’ve got to praise him for what he’s done on Saturday, especially.”
The Hammers earned a vital win last time out at home to Southampton, with the Portugal international playing a key role for Moyes’ side, and they will need him to be at his very best for the remainder of the campaign, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of finishing inside the top half of the table come what May.
