West Ham United were dumped out of the FA Cup at the weekend.
Hammers boss David Moyes addressed the media during his pre-match press conference yesterday, and explained why he is hoping that the West Ham fans understand his side’s woeful performance at Wigan on Saturday, after the Scot was forced to field a weakened side at the DW Stadium, as quoted by the club’s official website.
West Ham have been in decent form in the Premier League over the past two months, having not lost since December 23rd, but their defeat to the Latics at the weekend was met with great disappointment from the Hammers faithful, who were desperate for a decent cup run.
The east London outfit’s attention will now be purely focused on Premier League action, and they will need the full backing of their fans, if they are to enjoy a successful final third of their campaign.
Moyes addressed the media yesterday, during his pre-match press conference, ahead of his side’s clash with Crystal Palace tonight, and pleaded with the West Ham fans for their understanding after their defeat to Wigan, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“We didn’t play well at Wigan but I would hope there was a bit of an understanding that, with the team we took up there, it was always going to be a struggle. I said after the game that I don’t think, unless we had our best team out, we had a realistic chance of winning because I don’t think you can go to these clubs with less than your best team; maybe one or two players out, but not what we had out for the game. Ultimately, we are the ones on the pitch, and I need to get the players to play better and get results. Some of the atmospheres recently have been fantastic and I think the players have helped that with.”
The obvious way to get the fans back onside will be by beating Palace tonight, but that will be easier said than done, with Roy Hodgson’s side proving to be more than competent adversaries in recent weeks and months.
