West Ham United boss David Moyes has told the club’s official website that new signing Frederick Alves has cost just over £1million.

The Hammers won’t have huge money to spend in January, so will have to get creative with their incoming business.

West Ham have now decided to sign a centre back for the future rather than splash out for a proven, finished product in his defence.

After weeks of speculation, West Ham have confirmed the signing of Alves on a three-and-a-half year contract from January 2nd.

Alves, 21, has impressed since breaking into the Silkeborg side in 2018, and West Ham weren’t the only ones to spot his potential.

The Daily Mail reported in November that Leeds United also wanted to sign Alves, but West Ham have beat them to his signing.

Moyes has now admitted that West Ham wanted to sign Alves over the summer, but they couldn’t make a deal happen at that time.

Moyes added that the deal is worth just over £1million, and West Ham hope he can become a first-team player in the future.

“He’s a young boy from Denmark we’ve had our eye on. We wanted to try and do it during the summer transfer window, but we weren’t able to do it then,” said Moyes. “He’s come in for just over a million pounds, so it’s a little bit of business that’ll help us with a younger group. We want to keep trying to add young players and we want to try and make the squad younger as we go along.”

“He’s somebody with potential. He’s probably not for just now, but he’s a young player with a bit of potential who’ll hopefully come good in the future,” he added.
