David Moyes is reportedly poised to quit the Sunderland managerial job after the Black Cats suffered relegation last week.
Joshua King scored an 88th minute winner to end Sunderland’s 10-year stay at the top flight. According to reports from The Sun, Moyes will quit, and could leave the club by the end of next week.
Here are three candidates who could replace him:
Aitor Karanka
Karanka was sacked by Middlesbrough in March, but recent reports (Sport) suggest he could replace Moyes at Sunderland.
Karanka endured a dismal season at the Riverside. However, he did a commendable job in taking the club up in the first place. He learned his trade from Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, and has a proven track record of getting results in the second tier.
Alan Pardew
While Crystal Palace gradually regressed under his leadership, which eventually led to his sacking, Pardew is still one of the best British managers around.
He is a vastly experienced manager, having managed clubs like West Ham, Newcastle United, Southampton and Palace in his career.
Derby’s manager Nigel Pearson
Nigel Pearson
The former Leicester City manager could be a good signing for Sunderland. Pearson has the experience of taking Championship clubs to promotion (did with Leicester) and there’s no reason why he cannot do the same again at the Wearside.
