Sunderland manager David Moyes has told BT Sport he used to liken Everton star Seamus Coleman to film character Forrest Gump.
The Republic of Ireland international has developed into a Premier League star over the years with a series of impressive performances for the Blues.
He has former boss Moyes to thank for his success after he paid just £60,000 to bring him from Sligo Rovers and handed him his chance in the Toffees first-team.
It is fair to say he proved to be worth the risk as his direct running became a key component of their play, and Moyes has joked he used to liken the full-back to the movie character made famous by Tom Hanks.
“I used to think he was like Forrest Gump,” he told BT Sport.
“He could run for fun. Even though that’s what he was, he hadn’t learnt the art of defending. But boy could he run, could he put folk on the back foot because he was positive.”
Moyes will now be hoping that Coleman does not have a big role to play when his Sunderland side takes on Everton on Monday evening.
The defender is expected to be fit after missing the start of the campaign and could be handed an immediate return to the first-team under new boss Ronald Koeman.
Moyes will likely be praying that is not the case, with his side arguably facing a better chance of getting all three points if he misses out.
