Ahead of West Ham’s Premier League clash against the League leaders, David Moyes has showered heaps of praise on Manchester City defender John Stones.
The 23-year-old is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but Moyes was full of praise for his former player.
The former Manchester United manager signed him in 2013 from Barnsley, when he was in charge of Everton.
Moyes said that Everton needed someone who was naturally comfortable on the ball, and Stones did fit the bill of the club’s requirement.
The former Sunderland manager has hailed the 22-cap England international as “top class”, and said that Stones can play for any team in the world.
“John Stones – we brought from Barnsley. We saw someone who was naturally comfortable on the ball. What he needed to develop was his defending. He got that at Everton. Since then he’s gone on to show he’s a top quality defender. He could play for any team,” said Moyes during the pre-match press conference, as quoted by the club’s official website.”
Meanwhile, West Ham are going through a poor run of form at the moment, having failed to win in their last seven Premier League games.
The Hammers are yet to win under their new manager, and it remains to be seen whether they can get a positive result from their trip to Etihad.
