European football expert Kevin Hatchard says Terem Moffi has an ‘all-round skill set’ amid rumours West Ham United want to sign him, but questioned if David Moyes can get the best out of him.
West Ham, after several finishes in Europe, are hovering above the Premier League’s relegation zone, with problems all over the shop for the London club.
One issue facing Moyes and Co is the struggles of summer signing Gianluca Scamacca, who has only scored three Premier League goals this season.
Added to that, Michail Antonio only has two goals to his name, hence why there is now the possibility that Moffi could move to the London Stadium from the French side, Lorient.
But will someone like Moyes still be in the dugout by the time the January transfer window slams shut, especially with a pressure cooker of a game against Everton coming up?
Whilst European football expert Hatchard rates Moffi as a talent and his performances in recent seasons, he questioned if Moyes is the manager for him, as he told Transfer Talk on Sky Sports News.
“He’s a really good player,” said Hatchard. “He’s really lively. Plays through the middle primarily, but he can drop in and link the play.
“He is somebody that can attack crosses, but he can run in behind as well. Really clever movement. He has been scoring goals for some while in a Lorient team that is exciting, but not stacked with talent, so he has continued to be consistent and he has continued to score goals.
“He was linked with Southampton, not so long ago and Premier League clubs have been looking at him for quite a while. It does make a lot of sense.
“But there is a caveat here and that’s is David Moyes going to get the best out of him? Because Sebastien Haller went to West Ham. He was completely misused. Scamacca has gone to West Ham and they haven’t played to his strengths. Moffi does have an all-round skill set, so he can play in different ways, so we will see how that goes.”
MOYES ON THIN ICE
As things stand, West Ham haven’t brought in a new face and it’s going to be interesting if he is backed by the Hammers board.
There will be some fans calling for his head, so in that sense, do you throw money at a manager that might not be here in a couple of weeks?
Added to that, if you are going to ignore the outside noise, then back Moyes in the market because it would be an utter disaster if West Ham went down.
