Jordan Pickford could return to Sunderland’s first-team in just over a month’s time.
David Moyes has told the Daily Star that Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford will return from injury ahead of schedule.
Pickford damaged his knee ligaments last month, and it was initially feared that the youngster could be set for a lengthy absence.
However, Moyes has confirmed that Pickford is recovering well, and he could be back in Sunderland’s team in six weeks’ time.
“Jordan’s doing well,” said Moyes. “We think he could be ahead of schedule.
“We certainly don’t think it will be eight weeks, closer to being six if anything at the moment.
“He feels good but that can only be tested once he’s back at it.”
Pickford has arguably been Sunderland’s best player so far this season, with his performances between the sticks catching the eye.
Moyes showed great faith in the youngster to install him as Sunderland’s number one at the start of the season, and Pickford has seized his opportunity with both hands.
The England youth international has looked perfectly capable of playing at Premier League level, and his absence is a blow for the Black Cats.
Vito Mannone has come in to cover for Pickford, during the youngster’s time on the sidelines.
Sunderland are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table – one point away from safety.
