Sunderland have won just three home games this season at the Stadium of Light.

David Moyes has told the Shields Gazette that his Sunderland’s side’s biggest problem this season has been their failure to deal with the pressure at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have the worst home record of any Premier League side, having won just three times in front of their own supporters.

And Moyes admits that Sunderland will need to sort their home form out, if they are to be a success in the Championship.

“It could be [a help having a big stadium], yes, but it could also be difficult if things are not going well,” he said.

“If you’re at a big club you have to be able to play on that stage. You have to be able to handle the pressure and play in front of the supporters.

“That’s been the problem this year. We have not been able to do it, and certainly not often enough at home.”

Sunderland have won as many games away from home as they have at the Stadium of Light this term, in what has been a desperately poor campaign for the Wearsiders.

Sunderland’s latest home defeat came against Swansea City last weekend, and the atmosphere at the Stadium of Light turned toxic at points.

Sunderland’s players and Moyes himself took on board a lot of criticism throughout the match, with the frustrations of the season coming to the fore.

Sunderland now have just two matches remaining this season, and they are both in London.

The Black Cats first take on Arsenal this evening, before they face Chelsea on Sunday.
