West Ham United drew 1-1 at home with Stoke City on Monday night.
West Ham United boss David Moyes has told Football.London that he still doesn’t think Manuel Lanzini is ‘quite there’ despite a substitute appearance against Stoke City.
Having picked up a 1-1 draw at Chelsea last weekend, West Ham were hopeful of following that up with a home win over Stoke City, but couldn’t quite make that happen.
The Hammers were on top in the first half but squandered a number of chances, and when the game opened up a little in the second half, Stoke struck as Peter Crouch scored from close range after Joe Hart failed to hold Xherdan Shaqiri’s shot.
Paul Lambert’s men looked to have snatched a late winner, but Aaron Cresswell chipped ball forward was volleyed home by Andy Carroll, handing West Ham a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
It wasn’t quite the performance West Ham fans were hoping for, but now three games unbeaten as the Hammers look to put a run together to end the season strongly.
Manager Moyes has been boosted by the return of goalscorer Carroll, whilst playmaker Manuel Lanzini also came on as a late substitute having picked up an injury on international duty with Argentina last month.
Lanzini managed just nine minutes but will now hope to build himself back up again, with manager Moyes telling Football.London after the game that Lanzini ‘isn’t quite there’, but his fitness is okay, it’s just the strength of his knee which must be managed.
“He’s another one I think is not just quite there,” said Moyes. “Manu played international games but done his medial ligament, his is more of an injury doubt. Andy is different, it was to do with his level of fitness. Manu’s fitness is OK, it’s just to see if his knee is OK and I think he is getting there, it’s more time than anything,” he added.
